Oskarshamn - Visby

The route between Oskarshamn (Småland province) and Visby is served all year round by Destination Gotland. Oskarshamn is located on the southern east coast of Sweden and is a convenient departure point, especially for travelers from southern Sweden. The crossing takes around three hours.

The ferries used can accommodate over 1,600 passengers and around 500 vehicles. There are restaurants, cafés and an on-board store with regional products and souvenirs on board.

Connections without a car

There are good bus connections for travelers without their own vehicle. In cooperation with Destination Gotland, so-called Båtbussar bus es run from various regions directly to the ferry port in Oskarshamn. There are connections, for example

  • from Linköping via Norrköping and Västervik
  • from Jönköping via Nässjö and Vetlanda
  • from Växjö via Kalmar

The buses stop directly at the terminal and the timetables are coordinated with the ferry times. Tickets can be booked together with the ferry crossing.

Arrival by car

Oskarshamn is easily accessible via the Swedish road network. Parking spaces are available at the port (some subject to charges, depending on season and availability).

Nynäshamn - Visby

The second year-round connection is between Nynäshamn, south of Stockholm, and Visby. The crossing time on this route is also around three hours. Due to its proximity to Stockholm, Nynäshamn is a frequent starting point, especially for international travelers.

The same modern ferries are used on this route as from Oskarshamn - with restaurants, family areas, quiet zones and bookable cabins. The connections are offered several times a day, with an increased frequency in the high season. Early booking is recommended, especially in summer.

Connections without a car

Nynäshamn can be easily reached from Stockholm city center by commuter train (Pendeltåg)or direct bus. The S-Bahn takes about an hour to Nynäshamn station, which is only a few hundred meters from the ferry terminal.

For a relaxed journey, it is advisable to arrive at the port at least one hour before departure, as public transport may deviate from the timetable.

There are also special Båtbuss shuttle buses, e.g:

  • directly from Stockholm Cityterminalen
  • from Uppsala (via Arlanda Airport)
  • from cities such as Eskilstuna, Västerås, Enköping, Strängnäs and Södertälje

Here too, the timetables are coordinated with the departure times of the ferries. The buses stop directly at the terminal.

Arriving by car

Nynäshamn can be reached from Stockholm in approx. 45 to 60 minutes via highway 73. Parking is available at the port and the routes to check-in are well signposted.

Cruises with Viking Line in the summer

Viking Line offers seasonal cruises from Stockholm to Visby in the summer, with a scheduled stopover in Mariehamn on Åland. Departure is in the late afternoon in Stockholm, arrival in Visby the following morning.
